Gateshead

Gateshead is situated on the south side of the River Tyne, incorporating Felling, Lowfell, Blaydon and Ryton. The main areas are accessible via the A1 and other routes such as the A184, A167. Various bus services run throughout the area along with the Tyne and Wear Metro.

There are many large shopping centres including the Metro Centre, Trinity Square and Team Valley Trading Estate. These offer everything from cinemas to supermarkets (Tesco’s, Asda, Aldi, Lidl) and a very large selection of retails outlets, shops and restaurants.

Gateshead Quayside offers fine dining and modern art in the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art (and stunning views across the city).  The world renowned Sage Gateshead is famous for its international music and events. The various bridges (Millennium, Tyne and Swing) allow you to cross over the River Tyne in to Newcastle upon Tyne or back towards Gateshead. The Tyne Bridge was built in the late 1920’s by Doman Long and Co, who also built the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Gateshead International Stadium hosts major athletic events and has seen the likes of Brendan Foster and Johnathon Edwards compete. It has also had 5 world records broken in it! Finally, pretty hard to miss when heading up the A1 to Gateshead, is the iconic Angel of the North’.
